HOW IT’S CALCULATED

The Formula: No Hidden Math.

01 Product Cost = FOB Unit Price × Quantity

02 Dutiable Value = Product Cost (+ Freight, only if you selected the CIF basis)

03 Duty Amount = Dutiable Value × Duty Rate %

04 Total Landed Cost = Product Cost + Freight + Duty Amount + Other Fees

05 Cost Per Unit = Total Landed Cost ÷ Quantity

DISCLAIMER

This tool provides estimates only, for planning purposes. Actual duty rates, VAT/GST, customs valuation methods and clearance fees vary by country, product classification and trade agreement. They can also change without notice. Always confirm exact figures with a licensed customs broker before you ship.

QUESTIONS

Landed Cost FAQ

01

Does this calculator apply to my country?

The formula is universal, but the customs valuation basis is not. Some countries assess duty on the FOB value, others on the CIF value (product cost plus freight and insurance). Use the toggle above to match how your destination country calculates it, and confirm with your broker if you’re unsure.

02

Where do I find my duty rate?

Duty rates depend on your product’s tariff classification and your destination country. If you’re importing to the US, you can look up your HTS code and rate at hts.usitc.gov. For other countries, your customs broker or national customs authority can confirm the exact rate.

03

Does this include VAT or GST?

No. This calculator covers duty only. VAT/GST is typically calculated after duty is added, and rates and rules vary widely by destination country. Factor it in separately, or ask your broker to include it in your total cost picture.

04

I don’t have a freight quote yet. What do I enter?

The honest answer is: ask your freight forwarder for a quote based on your specific route, weight or volume, and shipping method, then enter the total here. If you’re sourcing through Mangors, coordinating freight quotes is already part of our Full Sourcing service. You won’t need to chase this yourself.

WHY IT MATTERS

The Cheapest Unit Price Isn’t the Cheapest Order.

Buyers who compare suppliers on FOB price alone get surprised at the port. A small saving per unit disappears fast once you add a longer transit, a higher duty bracket, or a broker fee nobody mentioned upfront. We’ve seen this play out more times than we can count: total cost is what matters, not the number on the first quote.

That’s the whole point of this tool. Run your numbers before you commit, so the total on your bank statement matches the total you planned for.

  1. 01Quotation from Mangors is always free. The total cost is quoted upfront, before you commit.
